Review: It seems Santa visited me earlier and brought me this new release of these Dutch ugly deathers. Severe Torture inked a deal with Earache (by the way, great choice for both parts) and the first offspring is this new studio album, their third. This year they have released a live opus as well, but these 9 tracks are totally new and hard-kicking ass. I know this band since they were on a small Dutch death metal label, releasing a good '7"EP back then, and since then they have constantly improved in both skills and reputation, not that they were shit before. So, this time we are splattered with an incredibily tight and brutal death metal based mostly on technical foundations like Deicide did and still does. In fact they are somewhat on the same musical genre as Deicide, so if you like the Americans (mainly the "Once Upon a Cross" opus), you'll certainly appreciate Severe Torture. Mostly mid-paced death metal with manly guttural vocals with no other highlights than its tightness and powerful execution and production. But for the ones into the new wave of ultra-fast American/Canadian death grind this will be quite boring.
