Review: Rictus Grin is not a very familiar name for the European metalheads, but I tell you it will be if the guys keep working the same hard way they did until now. This is (are you sitting down?) their fifth (!!!) studio-album to date, although it's lenght gives us the impression we have here an EP. The tracks are short, but maybe that's why they have that old catchy feeling. Rictus Grin's music seems to be coming directly from the beginnings of the '90's. Heavy metal music taking a tharsh death shape with an impressively honest interpretation and passion. These are the bands that need and deserve all our support! The Wisconsin trio already oppened for monsters as Motorhead, Exodus, Obituary or Judas Priest (and many, many other) so their stage performance should be great, mature and very, very powerful by now. Anyway, I would recommend this release only to the ones of you who are still proud of the old way of playing death metal. Rictus Grin's music is not as powerful as today's death metal best, more thrash sounding than death. But still, if you are in the mood for something different and entertaining this might appeal to your tastes. This almost half an hour will not bore you as the rhythms are quite complex and various in order to keep it interesting. My fave feature in their music are the heavy metal guitar leads, quite often used. Good band, I'm curoius when and with whom they'll sign.
